About CFU Tanzania

The Conservation Farming Unit (CFU) Tanzania is an international Non-Governmental Organization registered in Tanzania since 2nd August 2013, promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Conservation Agriculture practices to improve farmer livelihoods and sustainability.

Our Story

Since its establishment in 2013, CFU Tanzania has been at the forefront of promoting Conservation Agriculture and Climate-Smart Agriculture practices across the country. The organization works with smallholder farmers, partners, and institutions to improve productivity, strengthen resilience to climate change, and support sustainable natural resource management.

Through its programs, CFU Tanzania has trained over 200,000 farmers across more than 10 districts, using practical approaches such as demonstration plots, farmer-to-farmer extension, and field-based training.

Our Approach

CFU Tanzania engages in the full cycle of program and project work, including formulation, implementation, appraisal, management, and evaluation. The organization provides specialized training and extension services in Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) technologies and practices to farmers and partner organizations.

Through its Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) extension approach, CFU ensures the rapid and sustained adoption of Conservation Agriculture technologies. The organization also develops and supports Tillage Service Providers (TSPs) and Spray Service Providers (SSPs), who deliver mechanized tillage and weeding services to farmers.

Learning Through Demonstration

Demonstration plots serve as hands-on training sites where farmers learn techniques such as minimum tillage, crop rotation, intercropping, and soil fertility management through direct observation and participation.

They also act as awareness tools to showcase the benefits of Conservation Agriculture practices, including improved yields, better soil health, and increased resilience to climate variability.

CFU Tanzania has established more than 200 demonstration plots across different regions.
